Description

The reasons for hypertonic disease remain unknown in spite of intensive investigations in the field. The role of some factors ("risk factors") such as inheritance, age, sex, dietetic peculiarities, weight, etc. that can affect the formation of arterial hypertension has been determined in numerous investigations. Emotional stress is one of such factors. To study the effect of genetic predisposition for emotional stress on the formation of stable arterial hypertension, the scientists of the institute bred the rat line ISIAH (Inherited Stress-Induced Arterial Hypertension) with higher stress sensitivity expressed in higher arterial pressure under emotional stress. Rats of line ISIAH are an adequate experimental model for inherited stress-sensitive arterial hypertension. It is convenient to replicate all the traits and symptoms typical of human hypertension with this model. It provides conditions for exquisite investigations on finding out genetic-physiological mechanisms of hypertension which are of great practical value. Constructing such a model makes it possible to conduct such experiments whose setting is impractical in the clinic. A new rat line could be also used for the search of and testing the effect of newly synthesised anti-hypertensive preparations or those obtained from natural sources.

Technical-Economic Advantages

At present, there are several rat lines in the world used as genetic models of human hypertension. Line ISIAH presented by us is beneficially different from these and other genetic models of human hypertension in the thing that stress factor was used when selecting ISIAH rats. As is known, stress factor is the most important in the etiology of hypertension. The line is characterised with higher arterial pressure under emotional stress: 190-208 mm mercury in males and 180 mm - females.

Fields of Application

Medical and academic institutions that need the arterial hypertension (human hypertension) model worked out in detail could be potential consumers of rat line ISIAH.

Level and Location of Practical Realisation

So far the Institute of Cytology and genetics is a monopolistic owner of this experimental model, and it makes necessary conditions for conducting brand-exquisite investigations which are of great practical value for medicine in finding out genetic-physiological mechanisms of the formation of hypertensive status and human hypertension. Constructing such a model makes it possible to conduct such experiments whose setting is impractical in the clinic.
